Madrid, 2 June 2021. Metrovacesa, Spain’s leading real estate developer with more than one hundred years of history, has announced its incorporation into Green Building Council España (GBCe), the leading organisation for sustainable building in Spain, which is part of the international network of World Green Building Council (WorldGBC). With a presence in more than 70 countries and 36,000 members, the organisation promotes the transformation of the building sector towards a sustainable model, facilitating the relationship between its members and all the agents involved.
Metrovacesa has joined GBCe as a member with the aim of further strengthening its commitment to sustainable urban planning and building, and thus actively contributing to the transformation of the real estate sector towards more efficient and environmentally and socially friendly strategies. In this sense, aspects such as energy efficiency, circular economy and a design adapted to the specific climatic and landscape characteristics of each location are key elements in its projects.
This initiative is part of the roadmap established by Metrovacesa in its Sustainability Plan 2020-2022.
Metrovacesa’s Projects and Sustainability unit has a large in-house team, which includes architects, engineers, Energy Certification specialists and a Green Accredited Assessor, approved by GBCe for the application of its sustainability seal, VERDE. This team is prepared to implement the necessary measures to achieve social and sustainable building in its 130 active developments and future projects that make up its land portfolio, equivalent to more than 34,000 homes to be developed. In addition, Metrovacesa works on a recurring basis with the best architectural and engineering firms, aligned with its philosophy of creating sustainable architecture.
David Sierra Lluch, Director of Projects and Sustainability at Metrovacesa, said: “As a benchmark in the building sector, Metrovacesa is committed to society and the environment. We strive every day to improve our projects and models towards a sustainable building system, and GBCe will be a great travelling companion to achieve this goal. Our experience and solidity, together with their rigour and involvement in the change, are a guarantee to achieve great goals”.
Dolores Huerta, CEO of GBCe, said: “It is great news that an entity like Metrovacesa joins GBCe to find different ways of collaboration for the promotion of sustainable building. Its drive joins the rest of the associates, a figure that is now close to 350 members, including companies, institutions and individuals involved in promoting the transformation towards sustainability in the building sector”.
