  • The Community of Madrid launches the blockchain cluster in Tres Cantos

Madrid, 28 April 2022. The Regional Government of Madrid has today set up the blockchain cluster in the municipality of Tres Cantos, the first of four to be launched during the current term of office, in order to consolidate the region as a digital hub in southern Europe.

A total of 22 companies, organisations and entities make up the team that will develop this technology, which creates a more transparent, dynamic, secure and simple environment of trust for the transmission of information and the exchange of data.

The Minister of Local Administration and Digitalisation, Carlos Izquierdo, today visited the headquarters of Thales Alenia Space España, a member of this initiative, where in addition to signing the start of this cluster, he announced the forthcoming signing of a collaboration protocol with LACChain, the global alliance for the development of this ecosystem in Latin America and the Caribbean.

“This agreement, together with the one we ratified a few months ago with Alastria, will turn Madrid into the neuralgic point of connection of nodes of this technology between the American continent and Europe”, assured Izquierdo, who also described the main functions that the Tres Cantos centre will have, among which are the carrying out of research, studies, analyses and projects on blockchain, as well as the promotion of its knowledge and use by society, in addition to favouring the establishment and adoption of digital identity models.

The mayor, Jesús Moreno, thanked the Community of Madrid for having chosen Tres Cantos as the location for the cluster, because “thanks to this centre, the municipality will increase the capacity for innovation and technological development of local companies, as well as their productivity and competitiveness, combining efforts, resources and knowledge”.

Carlos Izquierdo also recalled that the region accounts for a third of all Information and Communication Technology companies in the country and 64% of all investment in the sector.

On the other hand, although the physical location of the headquarters will be decided in the coming weeks, today the 22 entities and organisations that make up the cluster have started work. They are: Alastria, Accenture, Banco Santander, BBVA, Bizum, ADDALIA Technology, Metrovacesa S.A., Sci The World, Sunte Solutions and Usyncro. Thales Alenia Space, Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, IMDEA Software, IMDEA Networks, Fundación madri+d, Madrid Digital, S2, J&A Garrigues, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Blockchain Intelligence, Omega Peripherals and CEIM are also participating.
