Metrovacesa helps young people in vulnerable situations and strengthens its social commitment with an agreement with the Norte Joven association.
- In line with its General Sustainability Strategy (ESG24) and its Social Action Strategy, the developer has focused on seeking partnerships with continuity in projects in which it can contribute value due to its activity in the markets in which it operates and its experience in sustainability.
- For the second consecutive year, the company is collaborating with the Norte Joven Association to finance a training programme for young people who have dropped out of school and are economically vulnerable, in trades related to facility maintenance (carpentry, plumbing and electricity).
Madrid, 24 July 2023. Metrovacesa, Spain’s leading real estate developer, with over one hundred years of history and more than 120 projects under development nationwide, has reinforced its commitment as a socially responsible company through initiatives that seek the social and economic development of the communities in which it operates. Through a model of sustainable social action, the company seeks lasting forms of contribution, complemented by specific contributions, all aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations 2030 Agenda.
In this context, Metrovacesa has renewed its agreement with Norte Joven, a non-profit association that seeks to promote the personal development and social and occupational integration of socially disadvantaged people through training, access to employment and raising awareness in society. After signing a first agreement in 2022, Metrovacesa has renewed its commitment to this association for 2023. On this occasion, the developer will help finance a programme for young people who have dropped out of school and are economically vulnerable, so that they can learn trades related to facility maintenance (carpentry, plumbing and electricity).
During the past financial year 2022, the company already financed an apprenticeship programme in Carpentry from which around twenty school dropouts and economically vulnerable students, all of them from socioeconomically disadvantaged backgrounds, were able to benefit. The project was successfully concluded and yielded positive results, both in terms of student satisfaction and interaction and attendance, which will improve their employability and give them greater opportunities to enter the labour market or continue their studies at higher levels.
With this collaboration, Metrovacesa seeks to contribute to SDG 10 Reducing inequalities and SDG 4 Quality Education, promoting the social, economic and political inclusion of young people who have dropped out of school and are economically vulnerable, as well as increasing their technical and professional skills to facilitate their access to employment, decent work and entrepreneurship.
Metrovacesa plans to continue developing new initiatives for the next academic year. In its first experience, it is worth highlighting the corporate volunteering initiatives carried out by the developer. As part of these actions, several Metrovacesa professionals had the opportunity to share their experience and skills, accompanying the students on visits for home energy audits and interventions, and gave masterclasses and technical workshops to improve the knowledge of more than 40 young people.
Raquel Bueno, Director of Corporate Development and ESG at Metrovacesa, said: “Metrovacesa’s commitment to the development and renewal of this type of initiative is proof of our company’s clear commitment to do our bit in the social, environmental and economic spheres. By helping the professional development of young people in our areas of expertise, we improve employment opportunities and the competitiveness of our sector. We will continue to work to promote initiatives that help to achieve our objectives and to make this a more egalitarian society with greater opportunities for all.
