The managing director of Metrovacesa, Jorge Pérez de Leza, has been tasked with signing with the mayor of Tarifa the agreement for both parties to carry out the development of the Albacerrado area.
The details of the agreement signed by the current council includes the creation of at least one large hotel with 250-guest capacity and social facilities such as an auditorium. Additionally, in the residential section, 60 percent is allocated for the development of family homes as opposed to tourist apartments. By the same model, 50 percent of all family homes will have three rooms, and 10 percent four or more. The City Council and the company are also committed to promoting facilities and social infrastructure. More than five thousand square metres have been allocated for social assistance uses and an increase of rotational parking is planned.
The mayor, Francisco Ruiz, spoke today of investments now adapted to the needs and aspirations of Tarifa. He described an agreement that aims to provide answers to the expansion of hotel capacity in the area with the potential for congress tourism. “Our premise has always been to adapt investments to Tarifa and not Tarifa to the investment. In that sense, we now find a new model that advocates seasonally adjusted tourism. From the profile of the urban framework itself, a significant number of new hotel vacancies will be available to make Tarifa a more attractive option for congress tourism. This agreement is also committed to the creation of social assistance facilities, improved mobility and the creation of important hydraulic infrastructures is planned for the future of Tarifa”. “It is a project based in the city centre that shifts focus away from the distribution of hotel capacity. Now improved with the addition of these new premises, it will encourage development adapted to Tarifa”.
For the company, it represents an investment of around 70 million euros and an active commitment to participate in the economic and social development of a city expanding in the Albacerrado area. Jorge Pérez de Leza spoke today of “an important step for the consolidation of the Albacerrado transformation project under the premises of economic-social development, infrastructure generation and mobility promotion. For Metrovacesa, it is an important investment in the area. We aspire to contribute to its residential, hotel and tourist development. The common idea behind this project is to combat seasonality and provide hotels with facilities that make the area attractive for custom such as congress tourism”.
With the timely modification of the PGOR in the Albacerrado area in progress, both parties have recognized that there is still a margin for processing for the works to be visible. But the important thing is that there is consensus amongst everyone and today definitive details regarding the future project have been set down. The mayor highlighted the desire for dialogue shown at all times by the company in order to redirect an important investment to Tarifa.
For now, the City Council has sought the involvement of Metrovacesa in sponsoring and organizing events such as the forthcoming Estrecho Games.

The agreement includes the creation of a minimum of 250 hotel beds, the development of social facilities and the promotion of family housing
