Metrovacesa and Cemex drive sustainability from the ground up with green concrete

• Spain’s leading real estate developer is teaming up with the leading company in the cement sector to reduce the carbon footprint of its developments through the use of sustainable concrete.

• Both companies will focus on the development and supply of concrete and mortar from the Vertua® family, as well as on identifying new solutions that contribute to reducing the carbon footprint of Metrovacesa’s projects.

Madrid, 09 April 2025. Metrovacesa, Spain’s leading real estate developer with more than a hundred years of history and 114 projects under development nationwide, has signed a collaboration agreement with Cemex, a benchmark in building solutions, to incorporate Vertua green concrete in its projects. This alliance reinforces Metrovacesa’s strategic alliances in construction and its commitment to sustainability and innovation in the real estate sector, contributing significantly to the reduction of the carbon footprint of its buildings and infrastructures.

The agreement came into force on 27 February 2025 and will remain in force for one year, with an option to renew. Thanks to this collaboration, Metrovacesa’s developments will be able to integrate Vertua concrete into their construction process, a solution developed by Cemex that reduces CO₂ emissions by 30% to 70% compared to traditional concrete.

The agreement incorporates aspects such as strategic collaboration, supplies of innovative products, in reference to the identification and production of concretes and mortars designed for Metrovacesa’s development works; development of new solutions on joint collaboration in the design of new sustainable products to reduce the carbon footprint and improve environmental certifications; and technical advice from Cemex in relation to the matters of the agreement.

The agreement reinforces Metrovacesa’s commitment to a more efficient and environmentally friendly construction model. In line with its sustainability strategy, the developer incorporates innovative materials that optimise the environmental performance of its developments, minimising their impact from the start of construction.
