Madrid, 11 January 2022. After completing over the past year the processing of the plotting project and the mandatory repair works, last Tuesday, 11 January, the deed for the transfer of the former CLESA factory to the Madrid City Council was signed. In the same act, the four properties were segregated for Metrovacesa, with a total buildable area of 88,702 m2 for tertiary uses.
This is one of the company’s most important urban developments, due to its excellent location in the north of Madrid, excellent communications and an example of sustainable urban regeneration and development. The main objectives of the project are the conservation and enhancement of the original CLESA factory building, one of the most renowned pieces of 20th century Spanish industrial architecture, and the development and transformation of the rest of the plot, creating a new area of centrality and economic activity for the city. The former factory will be ceded by the City Council to the Dutch company Kadans Science Partner, which will develop a centre dedicated to the sciences and cultures of life (research space on health sciences, coworking open to the community, cultural creation centre and congress venue) after winning the 2021 edition of the “Reinventing Cities” competition, promoted by the C40 network of cities.
Metrovacesa will also develop a mixed-use campus (offices, student residence, co-living, services, etc.) on its plots of land, on which work has been underway since the second half of last year.
