Madrid, 11 April 2024. Metrovacesa, a leading real estate developer in Spain with more than 100 years of history and 141 projects under development nationwide, has established a partnership with CoCircular to promote the circular economy in the development of its activity, in collaboration with construction companies and waste managers.

This alliance, which starts with a portfolio of more than 20 projects distributed among the company’s five regional offices, aims to optimise the separation and recovery of waste generated during the construction process. This will favour the circularity of the projects, facilitating the reuse and recycling of materials, and will reduce their environmental impact.

Law 7/2022, of 8 April, on waste and contaminated soils for a circular economy, establishes the objective of allocating at least 70% by weight of non-hazardous construction and demolition waste (CDW) to the recovery of materials.

CoCircular’s technology enables full and transparent traceability of CDW quickly and efficiently. The solution also includes the necessary technical advice, including control audits, to ensure the correct treatment of the waste generated and compliance with national and European regulations, as well as the strategic objectives set by the developer.

This initiative is part of Metrovacesa’s circular economy strategy, comprising five strategic lines in the area of circularity and 50 specific actions, as well as a transversal line of communication and dissemination.

Alfonso Menéndez-Pidal, Metrovacesa’s residential technical director, explained that: “the building sector has a very important responsibility in the challenge of sustainability. Therefore, alliances between key players are essential to generate positive impact with a multiplier effect. Joining with CoCircular to promote the circular economy is one more step in our shared purpose of protecting the environment”.

Paula Sánchez, CEO and co-founder of CoCircular, said: “The partnership between CoCircular and Metrovacesa is a clear example of how strategic collaboration can drive sustainability in construction. Together, we are setting the standard for a more responsible sector, leveraging our technology to efficiently manage waste. We are proud of this partnership, which reflects our shared commitment to protecting the environment and building a greener future.
