  • In the agreement, signed at the beginning of the year, both companies committed to using Vertua® concrete and mortar products, renowned for their low environmental impact.
  • The developer has already applied this solution in three completed developments in the Levante area, achieving a reduction in emissions of more than 1,700 tonnes of CO₂.

Madrid, 3 November 2025.- Cemex, a global leader in building materials, and Metrovacesa, a leading property developer in Spain, present the first results of their strategic collaboration to promote sustainability in construction.

The two companies have enjoyed a long-standing collaborative relationship, with Cemex being a regular supplier of concrete for Metrovacesa’s projects. This relationship was strengthened with the signing of a strategic agreement in early 2025, which aims to incorporate low CO₂ emission concrete (Vertua®) into the developer’s projects, supporting the decarbonisation of the real estate sector and the climate goals of the 2030 Agenda.

As a result, Metrovacesa has used Vertua® concrete in three completed developments in the Levante area —Inspira, Molí Mistral and Patraix— using 19,500 m³ of this material, which reduces CO₂ emissions by between 30% and 70% compared to conventional concrete.

Thanks to this solution, the construction of the structure of these three projects has avoided the emission of 1,709 tonnes of CO₂, equivalent to the annual emissions of around 1,300 passenger cars according to estimates by the DGT and ANFAC, or the carbon capture of around 28,000 planted trees.

‘We are very pleased to see how the agreements signed with enthusiasm and expectations are translating into such significant results. We hope that this relationship will continue to be fruitful and that we can move forward on the path we have already begun,’ says David Sierra, Director of Projects and Sustainability at Metrovacesa.

“At Cemex, we work every day to promote solutions that contribute to a more sustainable future. Our collaboration with Metrovacesa reflects our commitment to decarbonising the construction sector through the use of innovative materials such as our Vertua® concrete. Seeing how these initiatives translate into concrete results—such as significant emissions reductions in real projects—reaffirms that the transition to more sustainable construction is not only possible, but already underway,” says Albert Gómez, Director of Materials at Cemex.

Currently, both companies continue to collaborate on the construction of Nou Llevant (Palma de Mallorca) and Abelia (Alicante), with which they hope to expand the use of low-carbon materials and reinforce the positive impact on the environment.

With this agreement, Cemex and Metrovacesa seek not only to improve the sustainability of construction in Spain, but also to promote a business model that prioritises environmental responsibility and social commitment in their future projects.

Decarbonising the cement sector

Cemex remains firmly committed to sustainability and the fight against climate change through its global programme Futuro en Acción, which aims to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. To achieve this, the company promotes innovation in sustainable materials, optimises its production processes and invests in renewable energies, actively contributing to the sustainable transformation of the construction sector.
